What if we could live forever? Sounds like a dream, right? But what if it was true; what if humans could actually live for eternity? Well, it may seem like a good idea at first, but think again. Would the human society really thrive, or would it cease to existence? After considering it for a while, it is obvious that being immortal would be more of a curse, than a wish. Life would be full of misery for people over a hundred in age, stricter rules would be set, and the population of homo sapiens would be too large to sustain.

A vital factor to consider first is that many people would not be able to enjoy life at an old age. Everyone would have to experience most of their life without the joy of really enjoying it. This is because soon most people would be in their hundreds, thousands, or even millions! Imagine a 2634 year old person, in his wheelchair, hopelessly looking around for something to enjoy; would he be able to play sports, socialise with friends, or even move around easily? Therefore, life would not be very enjoyable for many people after they reach a hundred in age.

Moreover, there will be much stricter rules for citizens to follow. Crimes and robberies would go out of hand as people can’t do anything in their power to stop them, not even the police. There would be no way that anyone could prevent them if it reached severe levels. Even for normal citizens, the government would be very sensitive with their actions, in case they decide to meddle with wild animals or destroy buildings for fun. Thus, stricter laws would need to be set for the population.

A last intention to add is the risk of starvation. Since people would live forever, the society will perilously increase, and the planet will quickly overpopulate. Due to this, many animals would become extinct, and crops would not grow quick enough; humans would certainly starve. If this continues, millions of people would be wandering around, their stomachs empty, as if they did not know what to do. Hence, starvation is a likely threat if humans became immortal.

Overall, living forever would be the last resort for humans to experience. Everyone would not be able to appreciate it for long, would have to be set strict rules to follow, and could possibly risk a threat of starvation. So, if you see someone wondering what it would be like if humans could live forever, tell them: it would not be something to wish for.

Peace ✌️
